The Connectivity Scorecard wins International Development category at the SUPERCOMM 2009 EOS Awards

October 28 2009

The Connectivity Scorecard has won the International Development category at the SUPERCOMM 2009 EOS Awards. The study is the first to evaluate how ‘useful connectivity’ impacts countries’ social and economic development. Useful connectivity is a combination of the availability of ICT infrastructure and the extent to which governments, businesses and consumers put it to good use.

The Connectivity Scorecard covers 50 countries around the world*. It was commissioned by Nokia Siemens Networks and written by Professor Leonard Waverman, Fellow of the London Business School, with the consulting group LECG.

“The global impact of the Connectivity Scorecard is revolutionizing the way we look at ICT,” said John Salak, President, The Salak Group, who presented the award. “Nokia Siemens Networks has successfully shown that ICT development can be the key tool in turning around struggling economies and, more importantly, changing lives.”

“Our worldwide research program helps countries with widely differing economies to understand how their growth is impacted by the informed use and availability of ICT,” said Susan Schramm, Head of Marketing North America at Nokia Siemens Networks. “We are honored that SUPERCOMM has recognized our efforts to provide countries with an objective assessment of their current ICT ecosystem and successfully link increased national connectivity with socio-economic development.”

Through the Connectivity Scorecard, a country is able to effectively assess its resource allocations among varying sectors, determine if its infrastructure investment is at par with the current user needs, and measure its success in enabling adequate levels of access and use of key technologies.

The International Development category was new this year at the SUPERCOMM 2009 EOS Awards.
