3G arrives in Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan\'s fastest growing cellular operator FE Coscom Ltd., operating under the UCell brand, has launched a 3G trial network in Tashkent and Samarkand, with the intention of expanding coverage to the entire country, and bringing high-speed mobile multimedia services to Uzbeks for the first time.

 

The network provided by Nokia Siemens Networks is Uzbekistan\'s first 3G rollout and a defining moment for the Uzbek population who will now have access to world class experiences such as video calls, live video streaming and fast Internet on their handsets.

 

The Nokia Siemens Networks solution will permit download speeds of 7.2 Mbps and upload speeds of 1.4 Mbps, providing for video calls, live TV streaming, video on demand and high speed internet browsing enabled by High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) technology. Nokia Siemens Networks undertook an extensive network planning over a three month period, installing a Flexi 3G base stations, a radio network controller and Media Delivery Solution (MDS) to provide the 3G service.

Mikko Ylä-Kauttu, Head of Customer Team at Nokia Siemens Networks, added: \"We have been working with UCell for over a year and deployed a full 2G core network for them. With this upgrade to next generation technology, they will be in a position to provide more services to their customers while at the same time achieving greater network capacity. This is a bold step that they have taken and we congratulate them for it.\"
