Number of cellular subscribers up in Russia, Ukraine

February 2006 cellular market data for Russia and Ukraine (including Russian mobile operators\' activities abroad) were published by Advanced Communications & Media. According to this data, the number of subscribers (valid SIM cards) reached 129.6 mln (up 1.5 mln from January 2006, 47.9 mln from February 2005). Penetration increased to 89.3% (up 1% from January 2006, 33% from February 2005).


There were 137 and 121 SIM cards in use per 100 population in Moscow and St. Petersburg respectively as of February 28, 2006.

 

Meanwhile, in Ukraine, the number of subscribers (valid SIM cards) reached 32 mln (up 0.6 mln from January 2006, 16.5 mln from February 2005). Penetration increased to 67.2% (up 1.2% from January 2006, 34.6% from February 2005).
